Snehal Busa's Poetry of Protest

She is Snehal Busa became part of protest that her dad waged in the form of 100 days hunger strike against education department of Goa. She along with her sister and mother were bared bare heat of sun to make their point on injustice she and her family suffered. She as latched inside the washroom and then made to eat her food near the toilet with foul smell everywhere few years ago in Talegao school. Her protest against headmistress went in vain and after sharing with parents she found stream of support.

While press and public is well aware of her support to her dad's hunger strike outside education department what is not known are her poetic instincts. Here we share three of her fascinating poems here. 'Daddy' is poem she writes to her own dad Balkrishna Busa who carried on 100 days hunger strike, fitting salutation.

'Ghost' is poem that reflects reactions to her natural black complexion from fellow students in school. Its also sharp critic of racists bias in our minds. Fantastic combat.

"Being touch" is a poem among other things expresses abandonment by friends in the path of struggle she is walking. All three are fabulous poems. Goa can be proud for having such a Poet amidst us though a growing child still.

Poems are fit to go into school syllabus. On our part we make them public with gratitude Snehal Busa, her mother Geeta Busa and father Balkrishna Busa.

DADDY
Terrific, dad's don't grow on trees
Shopping shows don't carry them
Nor come to you by mail or any kind of sale
They don't fall from sky
you can't pull them from magic hats
no matter how much you try
In fact, you could look high and low
And search the whole world through
But you'd never find another dad
Who's half as great as you .

GHOST
Once I saw a Ghost,
I felt he will turn me into a toast,
He had red eyes
He will eat me if I tell lies
I saw it and screamed
I woke up and found,
it was just a dream.

BEING TOUCH
What a bad luck
I heard them calling me a duck!
My friends didn't support,
Felt like appealing in Principal's Court,
To make me happy, they fell pleading on the floor,
But I got angry and closed the door.

Parents wake up as there is risk for life of your child at school

Bharat Mukti Morcha takes strong objections to the Goa Police proposal to induct School and Higher Secondary students in Goa as Police informers. Goa’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunil Garg has announced the concept of ‘little police’ on 22nd July 2015 and aired on T.V. Channel ‘Goa 365’. The ‘Little Police’ concept involves as per Sunil Garg taking students out of classrooms into Police Stations and training sensitizing students to the cyber crime, traffic management, drug trafficking, and other crimes. The concept further involves recruiting students as ‘Police informers’ and providing ‘police identity cards’ to the recruited students. IGP perhaps thinks that this will improve the image of Goa Police amongst public for which he is wrong. Students cannot be used for this purpose. They go to school to study only and not to become little police informers.

The solution suggesting to combat crime is worst than the malady. The malady is bad image of the Goa Police amongst members of public. The bad image has developed due to number cases of police excesses such as custodial death of Khan Abdul Gafar Khan and Cyprian Fernandes, Illegal detention and Custodial torture of Babi Gaonkar from Sirgaon at Bicholim Police station, biased framing of cases and targeted arrests and torture of muslims like Naveed Sheikh at Vasco police station, Police torture of student leader Moses Fernades and arbitrary and deceitful arrest of Adv. Ajitsingh Rane. In Bambolim Police Inspector Devendra Gad beat up fishermen Vishnu Kankonkar on Bambolim beach to uphold interests of Hotel Grand Hyatt.

IGP does not seem to have been ceased with these root cause for continues damage to public image of Goa Police. The police have gone down so much that they are with the MLAs and Ministers over ruling the Panchayat and supporting all the Corporate for whom they illegally arrest and create fear for the locals who are opposing the projects. The examples are plenty in mining belt like Colamb, Rivona, Ambaulim, Cavrem, Advalpal, Sirgaon, Mayem, Naveli,  etc where police engaged in repression against public in order to protect the mining interests of Vedanta, Sesa Goa, Chowgules, Fomentos, Timblos, Salgaoncars etc. More examples are of Vanxim where few bus loads of police were brought in for Gram Sabha of Sao Mathias Panchayat to frighten people and later on four ladies were arrested. In Tiracol Bouncers who are a goonda force of Leading Hotels Private Limited attacked the villagers on three occasions and police has not arrested single bouncer so far leave alone charge-sheeting. In Keri, Ponda Goa Police shot dead young boy Nilesh Naik protesting against Nylon 6,6.

While root cause has been ignored, and school and higher secondary campuses are sought to be involved for the greater betterment of the Goa Police image. This initiative of Goa Police is destined to create dangerous implications both for the students as well as parents of little police informers. The students engaged in role of ‘police informers’ as the eyes and ears of police would certainly be under great risk from the gangsters of narcotics illicit trade and their organised ring leaders with well established political patronage. Students will come under increased gangster attacks thereby jeopardizing their studies. Parents are not sending their children to school for the purpose of improving the image of Goa police by risking their children’s lives.

In case state government decides to allocate the responsibility of political policing of tracking the people whose views are contrary to the ruling party then it may well be the case of famous George Orwell’s novel titled as ‘1984’ whereby children spy parents and siblings and reporting to the police department. This could be the gloomy reality waiting for us in case little police idea of Goa Police is implemented. It is indeed very dangerous that Home Ministry should exercise its authority in this form of little police concept over school students. Moreover it is well established fact that police informers and interlopers face double risks – firstly from the gangsters and, secondly from the police themselves.

Bharat Mukti Morcha has discussed with students, parents, school and higher secondary authorities for Children’s future is at stake. We asses that ruling Bamons of Goa are feeling increasing insecure over retaining their positions as exploiters of society and that’s reason this little police concept is initiated so that campus is vitiated and gang wars marks entry in the on  campuses and homes. In a bid to improve the image of Goa Police school students must not be destroyed in this manner. This type of idea is a product of devious brain of India’s defence minister Manohar Parrikar, a Bamon from Goa who has entire cabinet of Goa as his puppet.

The concerned parents must come forward and abolish this little police policy of Goa government de facto headed by the Defense Minister of India Manohar Parrikar. It is high time for all the parents to rise up against this policy and have safe schooling for their children including the Higher Secondary. Now is the time, dear parents, wake up and save your child. Now is the time dear students wake up for the injustice thrown upon your shoulders. Now is the time for the entire Parent – Teacher’s Associations to rise up against transforming students into police informers. The manager, the management of the schools and the entire authorities also wake up and do not get fooled with the little police concept as in case anything happens to the students entire management of the school will be held responsible and the poor parent will loose their child. So wake up with commitment to save the student.

The police must be responsible and committed to serve with dedication the responsibilities given to them and do not burden the upcoming student who has loads of home work plus the studies. Let the students bloom into excelling buds. Let the parents be at peace to see their child studying without being police informers.

The very concept of little police informers as eyes and ears of police denotes that currently police are blind and deaf. It’s a shame to use innocent students for intelligence gathering for police. They are paid to do their duties. Let the students study peacefully at schools. There should not be any additional burden given by the Home Ministry to the students as school is meant to study and not to be generating little police informers.

Sub.: Follow up to our complaint dated 30/7/2013 regarding Corporal punishment to students.

 Sir,

This is regarding our complaints dated 30/7/2013 regarding corporal punishment meted out to a few students of std. VIth by   Mr. Dattaram Chari under the influence of alcohol in Dr. Ambedkar English High school, Kuchelim, Mapusa Bardez-Goa on 25/07/2013.

As soon as the Manager of the School Mr. N.G. Akhargekar got the information

regarding our complaint filed in the Education Department , he on 19/08/2013 called me ( Mast. Gautam Kamble, student of class IX) in the school office during 5th period at 11. 40 a.m. and asked me to withdraw the complaint filed in the Education Department on 30/07/2013.

I was forcefully kept in the office for two periods i.e. 5th and 6th from 11.40 a.m. to 12. 50 p.m.  whereby I missed two periods. I was put under duress to sign the document to withdraw the complaint stating that it was false and that the said teacher had not under the influence of alcohol beat any student of the school but I boldly resisted the pressure.  Also he tried to threaten me by saying he will put me in trouble if I didn’t agree to withdraw the complaint filed in the department.

Before appearing for the Mid-term Exam on 20/8/2013 the manager also asked me whether I have taken decision regarding withdrawal of the complaint or not?

It is also learnt that the manager Mr. Akhargekar, visited houses of Dadapir Honnalli and Akash Nandurkar, students of Std. VIth on 19/8/2013 and asked the parents and victims to withdraw the complaints which they had filed in the Police Station at Karaswada Mapusa Goa against Mr. Dattaram Chari on 25/7/2013.

On 21/8/2013 during the 2nd period the manager called Dadapir Honnalli in the school office, caught hold of his shirt collar and asked him to sign on a blank paper Dadapir denied to sign and ran from the office to the classroom.

During the 5th period (P.E.) students of Std. VIth were playing on the playground, the manager and Mr. Chari went on the playground and called Dadapir. As Dadapir approached them the manager threatened him by telling he would  take Dadapir in the High Court for not withdrawing the complaint. Dadapir said   “I have not made any mistake. Chari sir had beaten me I will not withdraw my complaint.”  Then the manager started abusing Dadapir by giving him filthy words (words does not suit ethics of this blog, hence omitted from publishing here. Words are prevalent in the original complaint to the director of education).

After that he visited Dadapir’s house in Dadpir’s absence and asked his mother to give in writing that Mr. Chari is not the accused and the complaint made by them is false, but his mother denied to do so.

Instead of taking any action against the accused teacher the manager is trying to pressurize and harass me and the victim students and their parents to withdraw the complaint thereby trying to settle the matter and protect the accused. As revenge to our complaint Mr. Dattaram Chari and the Manager have started harassing me and other some other students by passing sarcastic comments and threatening.

Is this the ethical behavior of the manager in the interest of education of students? It is amply clear that the Manager runs the school not for the betterment of the students but to underscore his motive.

Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Morcha highly condemns such downcast acts of the manager.

We kindly request you to take necessary action at the earliest against the accused teacher as well as the manager in the interest of the students so that corporal punishments and harassment will stop immediately.

Thanking You.

Yours faithfully,

Threat by goons at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar School, Mapusa

According to the received information Eknath Rathod, std VIII student at Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar English High School, Kuchelim, Mapusa is going to be attacked by goondas in school tomorrow. This threat to create fear in him comes after less than a week of him filing complaint on torture against school authorities. The complaint is filed with education department, government of Goa and copy is submitted to Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Morcha.

The school authorities had earlier attempted to get this 14 year old student out of school. This brilliant school boy Rathod whose favorite subjects are math and science has been source of great irritation to the management of the school due to his deep thirst and commitment to study. Instead of encouraging talent in him school management is engaging in various practices of demoralization.

Should there be goonda attack on Eknath Rathod tomorrow or any other day, on campus or out of campus it will be construed as an attack from the agents of the Bamon Raj, and Home Minister who is also the Education Minister and Chief Minister of Goa Mr. Manohar Parrikar will be held responsible for the post-attack fall out in case if his intelligence agencies and police fails to prevent attack on young Rathod.

Sorry state of education in Goa conveyed to the Goa government

Sub.: Regarding Corporal punishment meted out to students

         by a drunkard teacher.

Sir,

This is regarding the corporal punishment meted out to a few students of std. VIth by a male teacher under the influence of alcohol in Dr. Ambedkar English High school, Kuchelim, Mapusa Bardez-Goa on 25/07/2013.

Immediately two frightened victim boy students ran away from class and filed a police complaint at the Karaswada police station against the accused teacher named Mr. Dattaram Chari.

As noticed and complained by the students the accused was attending his duty after having alcohol. During the 6th period the accused was taking class for std. VIth.  While in the class he got a phone call and to receive the call he left the class. After 20 minutes he re-entered the class with a wooden stick in his hand. As soon as he re- entered the class the students could get a smell of liquor.

He then started beating the students. He beat four students namely Krishnaveni Patil, Dadapir Honnalli, Akash Nandurkar, and Heena Jawadgi .All of them are minors. When Krishnaveni asked the accused for the permission to go out for toilet; the accused hit the girl on her back with great force.  Soon the red mark appeared on her back as a result of hitting with the stick as informed by Krishnaveni. When Dadapir said he could get a smell of alcohol the accused beat him saying the smell was not of an alcohol but that of the stick in his hand. He also beat Akash and Heena. When the accused left the class when his period ended   Akash and Dadapir ran to the nearby police station at Karaswada and filed a police complaint against the accused. The police registered the complaint given by the two minor boys and accordingly contacted parents of both the victims.

It is learnt that the said teacher is in the habit of having alcohol and beating students with a stick when on duty.

‘The Herald’ dated 26/07/2013 says, the state Government has come up with the new educational policy which seek to have compound walls and CCTVs in the schools to put a check and control increasing  rape cases on minors in Goa. The government instead should control malpractices of teachers like Dattaram Chari which leads to produce lewd and vulgar young minds. The accused is also in the   habit of passing vulgar comments in the class while teaching the science subject. He was circulating pornographic pictures and material to students till he got warning from some parents. Such acts of teachers will spoil the characters of students.

It is learnt that the accused does not teach but directly gives Xerox copies of questions and answers of the examination. Even he provides question papers to few students of his choice prior to exam. If any student requests the accused to explain the content from the textbooks, then he gives punishment to those students along with vulgar comments like, ghati students, illegitimate children. All the time he teaches only biology and not physics or chemistry which is also a part from science subject. Even when he teaches other science subjects like Biology he mixes it up with lewd pornography.

Some time he comes in classes and organises a sleeping competition asking the students to sleep only to avoid teaching. He tells students whoever sleeps fast would be awarded with 5 marks in his subject. He also asks students to collect money to arrange parties and enjoy hot drinks.

He also threatens students that if they tell anything to anybody against him then he would set question papers on portion which is not touched by him.

Always he enters very late to class; sometime he does not even turn up to class and the class is left unattended with students out of the class shouting and roaming all over the school premises even disturbing the other classes and most of the time he send students on the playground for P.E. during Science/ Geography period which he takes. He is not serious about teaching even to higher classes of IXth and Xth.

It is very much depressing  that the said teacher is  the incharge of Harassment and victimise committee of the school as well as acting Headmaster of the school.

There are various complaints about the accused from students as well as from parents but no action is taken against the said accused by the school management.

Many a time students have complained to the manager about the said accused for various reasons but the manager dispelled the students and did not allow anybody to give written complain about the accused. None of his malpractices are stopped by the management. Thus understood that the management is least bothered about the students’ future and rather protects the said accused for unknown reasons.

The accused teacher is a surplus Asstt. Teacher from Peoples’ High School at Kamurlim, Bardez-Goa deputed in Dr. Ambedkar English High School, Kuchelim, Mapusa Bardez-Goa in 2012.

Since many parents are illiterate they do not speak out openly. The students too get afraid to speak on his malpractices in the fear that the accused and the management would take an action against them. The students are afraid that the management may deliberately fail them in the exam  to demoralize them or would expel them from school. So the students here have become silent sufferers at the hands of accused and the management of the school.

Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Morcha condemns such acts of malpractices and the act of corporal punishment meted out to the students by the accused.

You are therefore urged to take immediate punitive action against the erring teacher within one week failing which we will be forced to take further steps.

Thanking you

Yours faithfully
