‘Simon
Go back’ agitation
In 1918 when ‘First India Act’ got passed, in that Act on
the advise of Chatrapati Sahu Maharaj Dr.Ambedkar submitted written memorandum
and when he was not granted these rights then matter got dragged on. But in
that law there was a provision that law will be evaluated every 10 years. As
per this available provision in 1928 ‘Simon Commission’ came to India to review
the law, at that time Gandhiji was the biggest congress leader.
As soon as ‘Simon Commission’ arrived in India then
Gandhi became restless that the 1918 pending issue of giving representation may
again be presented before Simon Commission. That’s why Gandhi started ‘Simon Go
Back!’ agitation. ‘Simon Go Back!’ agitation was started so that our people do
not get representation. Yet something else all together is thought in the
syllabus and what I tell is different. Why I keep speaking on the subject of
representation again and again? It is because representation is related to our
fundamental rights.
