BMM discussions on problems on Fishing in Goa

Five member delegation led by Maggie Silveira, President, Bharat Mukti Morcha, Goa State called on Mr.Amjad Tak, I.A.S., Secretary (Fisheries), Government of Goa on July 29, 2015. Delegation appraised Mr.Tak of various difficulties faced by fishermen in Zuari river and Mandovi river due to various factors. Various means of resolving problems related to fishing was discussed. Mr.Tak assured his co-operation in this regard.

He disclosed that no plans are pending in his office with regard to Marinas in Zuari. He also said that illegal trawlers fishing in Zuari has been a pending problem of his office and he has put up letter from Bharat Mukti Morcha to the Minister of Fisheries. Director of Fisheries Shamila Monteiro is not co-operating to stop illegal trawling in Zuari. In fact she is encouraging it further by suppressing people who are opposing the same.

Mr.Tak was also requested to make sure that no permissions are given to aqua sail or to the Hotel Grand Hyatt or Hotel Aldeia de Goa for water sports activities as it affects fishing activities of local people. 

The issues of Pontoon Jetty objected by Bharat Mukti Morcha at Old Goa, Panelim and Sand Mining carried on illegally in Mandovi river has was also discussed with Mr.Tak who also hold charge as Secretary and commissioner (Ports), Government of Goa.
