Aiding truth to escape: musings of Goa Veto Day

History text books at various levels contains some narrative of 18 June as "Goa Revolution Day. It's day in 1946 when the guest of Juliao Menezes in Assolna in South Goa Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya expressed in opposition to Portugues rule in Goa. It's remarkable that this incident has been stored to perpetuate memory through official education department approved textbooks.

There is however complete silence of importance 18 December in Goa's history. On this day in 1961 USSR exercised draconian Veto Power on Goa question at United Nations Security Council meet at New York overruling majority nations votes calling for withdrawal of Indian Armed forces from Goa and restore peace.

This veto power exercised by USSR sought to legitimize Indian armed action in Goa in violation of UN Charter of 1948 of refraining from exercising military action against fellow member States of the United Nations. Goa question was a dispute reported by Portugal to UN security council.

Exercise of Veto power was the first violation of UN Charter. For India then headed by Jawaharlal Nehru was in violation of Principles of Non-align movement advocating resolution of international disputes without resorting to armed conflicts but through peaceful negotiations.

Indian action in Goa backed by USSR Veto led to painfully consequences not only to Goa that we see today on the brink of acute crisis triggered by Indian political rule but India lost its moral right to advocate Peace in international forums and had to face few wars after 1961.

The sensitive nature of 18 December 1961 Veto on Goa is evident from the way the day is ommited from any narrative of it in Goa's history. Veto of 1961 is the epicenter of all the major political, economic and cultural crisis that Goa is currently plunged into for that moment legitimized violation of International law and decided rulers of Goa. Opinion Poll did not disrupt this arrangement but further cemented the asymmetric relations in the name of Goa Liberation.

We also get to know that system of Veto powers created within United Nation itself is a defective system meant to foster situations like that of Goa in the interests of powerful vested interests: Freemasonry.

Goa is in a caged state and the keepers of the cage are holding keys of the Cage. Bird in the cage flutters wings, gets illusion of development and advancement. Only condition is one must not attempt to bent the rods of the cage that were installed on Goa in New York Veto on Goa.

Those who rule Goa has attempted to keep Veto politics out of bounds of debate and discussion. It is kept out of school, college and University syllabus even though it is historical truth. Historians, Political Scientists in India and Goa are guilty of maintaining this lid of silence intact for the reasons best known to them.

The question before of is : how many more decades truth will be held hostage by bunch of people with unhealthy intentions? Not any longer! Time has come for Veto idea to escape the cage and this escape we must all aid!
